Our story

Music Community Resources was formed in 2005 by a group of dedicated musicians and concert goers who shared a desire to bring more live music to the public by hosting at various venues and creating music festivals.  The founding members included Norman Johnson, Barbara Buckland, Michael Fleckenstein, Galena Reiter-Thomson, Brad Yaeger, Lisa Marshall, George Thomas, and Bill White. Our first endeavors included the Friday and Saturday concert series and Sunday Open Mic at the Pegasus Coffee House on Bainbridge Island 2005 – 2009, and concurrently the Friday night series at Cafe Allegro in Seattle’s U-District 2006-2010. We started the Bainbridge Bluegrass festival in 2006 which ran through 2014. We held other concerts at Island Center Hall, the Bainbridge Commons, Island Music Guild Hall, BIMA Auditorium, Waterfront Park, Winslow Town Square, and Seabold Hall. We ran the Patsy Cline/Hank Williams Tribute Concerts at the Barn on Koura Road for several summers 2007 – 2009. Then from 2009 to 2019 we hosted the Concerts in the Woods series. We also offered workshops and classes to help improve the skills of budding musicians.

In 2020 we welcomed in some new members to the Board as we explore new directions supporting the efforts of the Intimate Music Series bringing an interesting mix of chamber music, the Olympic Serenade with various combinations of classical performances, and Cello Mania that combines cellos of various sizes and cellists of various ages into a group that demonstrates the diversity that this instrument can produce.

In 2022 we shifted gears again to support a new project of Mary Anne Moorman’s (Auntmama) near Kingston called Auntmama’s Stage 3 which includes music concerts, community informational workshops, and artist retreats.
